Why Coupon?
I have been asked this question alot lately. Using coupons is very important
for our budget. It seems the cost of EVERYTHING is increasing and the paychecks are staying the same. So, I had to learn to stretch our money further each paycheck. Couponing allows me to do that.
I try to locate coupons for everything that we buy or activities that we do. You can find coupons, not just for food or household items. You can find coupons for department stores, eating out, and for entertainment for your family.
I always try to locate a discount before I buy anything!

Remember, there will always be a deal....
When I first started out couponing to stockpile about a year ago...I thought I had to get EVERY deal! That thought lasted about 3 weeks and I realized there would always be a deal. I only get the deals that we can use, family or friends can use or I can donate. Don't get caught up in running around from store to store to get every deal every week, because it can and will burn you out.
A deal that I may get in my town, may not be a deal you can get in your own town. Prices can differ by regions. Coupon policies can differ also....So, keep this in mind when shopping. If you are unsure then ask, it never hurts to ask before you start shopping.

D.I.Y. Ideas!
We have recently had the conversation on Facebook about what our readers Do It Yourself?? Here are a list of great DIY things, to help cut costs back at your house!!
-If you have boys/men in your house that don't mind an all one length hair cut, then buy yourself a pair of clippers and DIY!
-Stop paying a maintenance person to cut your grass! That's a huge expense and it's very gratifying to do it yourself and see how nice it looks once your done!
-Take a class to learn how to do things. You might have to pay to learn them....but remember you will no longer have to pay someone else to do it for you, and in turn save those dollars!!
-Do free or cheap outings! Having a family picnic at the city park is always fun for everyone, and it's gratifying as a parent!
-Learn to sew! Make your own curtains, tablecloths, clothes and so on. It's much cheaper and you get what you want this way!
-If you have items for sale, instead of putting an ad in the paper.....try networking first. Most of the time when you advertise through social networking you can get a better response and strangers don't have your information by doing this! Or you can just do a good old fashioned yard sale!!
-Make your own food items from scratch.....examples: bread, pasta sauce, muffins, cakes etc.
-Plant your own garden so you have your own produce right in your back yard!
-If there is someone in your family that likes to hunt, take advantage of that and cook with that meat! There are a lot of recipes to help with the gamy taste.
-You or your partner start changing your own oil in your vehicle(s).
These are just a few things you can do, so feel free to leave your comments on how you help save your family money by Doing It Yourself!

Always check the clearance section!
When you are out shopping, be sure to check the clearance areas of the stores you shop at. You would be suprised at the number of items that you can match up with coupons!
There are so many great deals to be found even without coupons. I always do a price check on items that do not have the clearance price on them. I don't want a suprise when I go to the checkout!

Basic Couponing Tips....
I just wanted to post on basic couponing tips. Since, there are some people just starting to coupon!
Collecting Coupons: You can find coupons from Inserts from the Sunday Newspaper, ask friends and family for their coupons, print internet coupons from coupons.com or redplum, go to store websites and see if they have coupons to print, write or email companies, join a coupon train, and trade coupons locally or on the internet! There are also coupon clipping services that charge a small fee for their time. I like couponbeat or coupondede.
Make sure you learn all the stores (that you are planning on shopping at) coupon policies! Not all stores have the same policies. Locate the stores coupon policy and print it out. It is always nice to have a coupon policy while shopping in case there is an issue.
If you are unclear about a coupon's wording, then ask! I have asked before to clarify...
Do not argue! I have made it a point not to argue with any employee at any of the stores I shop at. I simply, say okay and ask for the manager. If you still cannot resolve the problem....then just purchase what you can and let them keep the rest. Either go to a different store or go back at a time that you know a different (easy going) employee will be there!
Rainchecks - Make sure you ask for a raincheck if they are out of product OR ask when there next truck will be in. Sometimes they do know what will be on that truck!
Do not be greeedy! Do not clear the shelf at one store. I know you may have 20 coupons for the item you want. But, if they only have 20 or less left....try to get few at that store and go to another store to get the rest. Remember, you don't have to have EVERY deal!! There will always be a deal!
Try to sign up for freebies on the internet! Some of those freebies will have coupons with them! The freebies are great to use or donate!
If you have anything to add...please do so! We love to hear tips....

Couponing on a Budget
We have met several of you who are still unsure about couponing itself. Some have said that even though they are using coupons, and looking for sales, they are still not saving enough money. It's definitely possible to coupon, not go over your budget, and still get the deals your looking for. Here are some simple steps to follow to make sure you save your money!
#1- Set your budget. Be sensible about this budget, factoring in the amount of people you are supplying, and remembering that you will not get EVERYTHING with a coupon.
#2- DO NOT BUY ANYTHING that is not on your list!! Impulse shopping is how you blow your budget!
#3- When you find an item that is at a rock bottom price, and you can store it, STOCKPILE. Having a stockpile is not hoarding, it's supplying for your family on a budget.
#4- Once you have spent your budget, DO NOT SHOP ANYMORE, unless it is unavoidable. If you don't get an item, it's not the end of the world.
#5- If you have the option to stack coupons, make sure you take it! Many retailers are offering their own coupons, so if you can save even a penny make sure you do so!
#6- Do not throw out left over's. Freeze them so that you will have another meal out of it when you can't cook. Limit your eating out to little or nothing, as that is a BIG time money burner.
#7- Make sure that you get a shopper card if one is offered for your store, as these card's will usually give you access to more savings than without. Some stores even have online coupons that go straight on the card.
#8- If your store doubles coupons, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!! Some stores only do this so many times a month.....if that's the case, make those your shopping days. Make sure to check your coupons to see if they are eligible for doubling!
#9- Know your coupon policy! There are A LOT of cashiers, managers and so on who don't know the policy. It's even better if you bring it with you, so if you have a problem your ready for it!
Always pay attention to the screen while things are scanning, computers AND people make mistakes!!

Remember, It's Okay!
It's okay not to get EVERY deal or freebie! I used to stress out about not getting everything....then I realized, there will always be a freebie or deal each week. Yes, some weeks are better than others.
Do I have coupons for everything I buy? No, I surely don't, I wish I did! There are some items that we just need!
Just Remember, It's okay!

Take a look at what we've scored!
Here you see a picture of Tylenol Precise! This item normally retail's for $7.99 each, BUT it was recently on sale for $5.00 each at Rite-Aid. On top of that sale there were coupons in the Sunday paper for $5.00 off of one Precise item, with no limits. After finding that all of our local Rite-Aid stores were out of the product, it was presented to SEVERAL Wal-Mart stores as a price match. With the price match and the coupons to boot, that made this item completely free! All that was paid was tax!! The original retail price would have been $719.10!!! The out of pocket cost was a total of $73.47, which included the cost of the coupons (bought from a clipping service), and the tax!! That's a heck of a savings!!
Pictured are 24 one pound bags of turkey lunch meat by Oscar Mayer. They were recently on sale at Winn Dixie BOGO for $3.99. That made each of the bags priced at only $1.99 each!! That put the total at $47.76 which is a great price to start with, but there were coupons used on top of that! The coupons were buy 2 packs of Oscar Mayer lunch meat and get $1.00 off. Since it was every two bags there were 12 coupon's used, which then took the total down to $35.76!!!!! WOW! Remember that most item's can be frozen!
The Nivea body wash's are all priced at $3.00 on sale at Target, and were paired with newspaper coupons for $3.00 off to make them free! The Visine eye drops were paired with $2.00 off coupons, as well as $2.00 off Tide stain release to make the total $8.13 after coupons!!!!
Pictured above are 27 bottles of Ajax dish washing liquids that were found on sale at Kroger for $.99 each. A $.50 coupon was used for the purchase, and all were doubled making all bottles absolutely free!!

So, you want to coupon?
Where to start.....
1. Start Collecting coupons - from inserts, magazines, internet, write and ask companies, ask friends & family to save them for you, mailbox, blinkies at the store.
2. Know your stores coupon policies! You don't want to go to the front of the store with a buggy full of products and learn that you can't use internet coupons at that store.
3. Check out company websites, to view their upcoming sales.
4. Sign up for samples or freebies. Most companies send coupons in the mail with the sample, and will e-mail you about special offers!
5. Create another email account just for signing up for samples & freebies...so you don't overload your regular email account.
6. Have fun, Don't Stress and Remember you don't have to get every deal out there!

Need a meal planner?
Cooking can be a challenge for everyone to keep up with. You run out of idea's, forget to take something out to cook, and sometimes just don't feel like cooking. There are lot's of way's to make sure that your family has a home cooked meal every night! Here are just a few of the thing's you can do to ensure that happens:
1) Cook your meals for the week all in one day and either freeze them or keep them in the refrigerator.
2) When you have left overs, don't throw them out! Freeze them! On those nights when you don't want to cook you can take that frozen meal out, heat it and serve it!
3) Make a meal plan, which can be done weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly! You are in total control if what is going to be served, and you know what to expect.
4) Make yourself a checklist. Get yourself a dry erase board and write down what to take out for supper, so there are no forgotten meals. This way when you wake up you can see what need's to be done, without searching for your list.
5)Have a left over night! Give your family the option to have any meal that's still in the refrigerator (and still good), so they can have choices.
There are several different sites you can use to plan out your meal's and get great recipes to make those meals. You can do that or just make up your own!! Be creative with it, but be realistic. If your working full time, you aren't going to have time to make a meal that takes 2 hours......unless you've pre-cooked it!! Please feel free to post good recipes for everyone to enjoy!
