Always check the clearance section!

When you are out shopping, be sure to check the clearance areas of the stores you shop at. You would be suprised at the number of items that you can match up with coupons!

There are so many great deals to be found even without coupons. I always do a price check on items that do not have the clearance price on them. I don't want a suprise when I go to the checkout!

Basic Couponing Tips....

I just wanted to post on basic couponing tips. Since, there are some people just starting to coupon!

Collecting Coupons: You can find coupons from Inserts from the Sunday Newspaper, ask friends and family for their coupons, print internet coupons from coupons.com or redplum, go to store websites and see if they have coupons to print, write or email companies, join a coupon train, and trade coupons locally or on the internet! There are also coupon clipping services that charge a small fee for their time. I like couponbeat or coupondede.

Make sure you learn all the stores (that you are planning on shopping at) coupon policies! Not all stores have the same policies. Locate the stores coupon policy and print it out. It is always nice to have a coupon policy while shopping in case there is an issue.

If you are unclear about a coupon's wording, then ask! I have asked before to clarify...

Do not argue! I have made it a point not to argue with any employee at any of the stores I shop at. I simply, say okay and ask for the manager. If you still cannot resolve the problem....then just purchase what you can and let them keep the rest. Either go to a different store or go back at a time that you know a different (easy going) employee will be there!

Rainchecks - Make sure you ask for a raincheck if they are out of product OR ask when there next truck will be in. Sometimes they do know what will be on that truck!

Do not be greeedy! Do not clear the shelf at one store. I know you may have 20 coupons for the item you want. But, if they only have 20 or less left....try to get few at that store and go to another store to get the rest. Remember, you don't have to have EVERY deal!! There will always be a deal!

Try to sign up for freebies on the internet! Some of those freebies will have coupons with them! The freebies are great to use or donate!

If you have anything to add...please do so! We love to hear tips....

Couponing on a Budget

We have met several of you who are still unsure about couponing itself. Some have said that even though they are using coupons, and looking for sales, they are still not saving enough money. It's definitely possible to coupon, not go over your budget, and still get the deals your looking for. Here are some simple steps to follow to make sure you save your money!

#1- Set your budget. Be sensible about this budget, factoring in the amount of people you are supplying, and remembering that you will not get EVERYTHING with a coupon.

#2- DO NOT BUY ANYTHING that is not on your list!! Impulse shopping is how you blow your budget!

#3- When you find an item that is at a rock bottom price, and you can store it, STOCKPILE. Having a stockpile is not hoarding, it's supplying for your family on a budget.

#4- Once you have spent your budget, DO NOT SHOP ANYMORE, unless it is unavoidable. If you don't get an item, it's not the end of the world.

#5- If you have the option to stack coupons, make sure you take it! Many retailers are offering their own coupons, so if you can save even a penny make sure you do so!

#6- Do not throw out left over's. Freeze them so that you will have another meal out of it when you can't cook. Limit your eating out to little or nothing, as that is a BIG time money burner.

#7- Make sure that you get a shopper card if one is offered for your store, as these card's will usually give you access to more savings than without. Some stores even have online coupons that go straight on the card.

#8- If your store doubles coupons, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!! Some stores only do this so many times a month.....if that's the case, make those your shopping days. Make sure to check your coupons to see if they are eligible for doubling!

#9- Know your coupon policy! There are A LOT of cashiers, managers and so on who don't know the policy. It's even better if you bring it with you, so if you have a problem your ready for it!

Always pay attention to the screen while things are scanning, computers AND people make mistakes!!
